A poet, writer, painter & musician Asoke Chakravarty has lived in Canada for over 40 years. He is a Mechanical Engineer with an MBA. His first short story was published when he was 18. He has published 10 books of poems, stage plays, rhymes, and other works. His work is published in Kolkata’s most high profile magazines. His English poems can be found in many Canadian & USA anthologies. In 2004 he received the UTSAV-BOOKFAIR Award. He studied Tabla with maestro Kanai Dutta & played with leading classical musicians. He has a Diploma in Fine Arts & has studied with European & Canadian teachers. He has had 18 solo shows. His work is collected in Scandinavia, Europe, USA, Canada & India. He has curated exhibitions on Satyajit Ray, Akira Kurasawa, Ingmer Bergman, Indian renaissance, and Theatre. He has organized Literary seminars & Art exhibits of International artists; sponsored by Universities. Founder-director: KRITTIBAS Toronto literary group. Chief Guest: International Bengali poet’s conference, 2006 & 2007 Keynote speaker: Shakespeare Society of India & Tagore-Gandhi Institute of India 2008. In 2009 he chaired & organized International Festival of Poetry of Resistance in Toronto.
